Director & Choreographer Hat

“Amanda Montoni is gifted with 3 distinct qualities: a clear vision for the production, an emphatic personality that’s nothing but supportive, and organized like every other director isn’t. She’s a great listener and problem-solver.”

I am the recipient of The Josephine Foundation Choreographer of the Year Award for 2 consecutive seasons (2016 & 2017) for my work on Cabaret and She Loves Me.

I teach at dance studios and coach competition teams. If you would like to inquire about a possible choreography relationship, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Click on the button below.

“Amanda Montoni is an absolutely brilliant choreographer. The way she expresses the musicality while keeping the story in the body is truly unmatched. She can work with anyone, even the most ‘rhythmically challenged,’ and make them shine on stage.”

“Not only does she delve incredibly deeply into character work and backstory, she also works incredibly with the actor to mold their perspective of the character around her own to perfectly display their stories. She truly sees the whole picture and directs clearly and concisely so that picture can be conveyed.”

Cast story

JK Larkin

Amanda Montoni proves through her artistic process that leading with compassion and empathy unites creative minds unlike anything else. Her deep love for the arts inspires those under her direction to dive head over heels into every single rehearsal and performance. Montoni’s talents have always spoken for themselves — after watching some two-dozen unique productions on which she’s worked, her range in both source materials and working environments is truly beyond. What her impressive body of work cannot reference, however, is the all-encompassing positive impact working alongside Amanda has left on most every single person on her path. The theater is a special space, and Amanda is so much what has helped make the theater a special place for me; let her make it a special place for you, too.

CAST STORY

REGINA FISCHEDICK

Working with Amanda on the Spring 2023 production of "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress" with City Gate Productions was a full-circle moment for me. We'd previously worked together as co-actors in musicals and she's choreographed several shows I've been in. Being directed by her was a new and exciting experience. You could tell from the beginning this was a true passion project from her, from the way she explained the play being character-driven and not plot-driven, and how she wanted the fluidity of movement come off natural and unrehearsed, like a spontaneous dance driven by true motivation and character intention.

She wanted the actors to dig deep and really understand their characters, and have openly expressed wishing we had more time to further the exploration had we been given the chance. The depth and relatability of her focus showed with the feedback on the performances from my peers who came and watched the shows, confirming her priority to make these characters real and relatable was the right call to give the audience an authentic and enjoyable experience. All throughout this production journey, I just knew in my gut all she ever wanted was to get the best, most intimate, and raw performance out of her performers, and it felt like a trusted partnership. This experience with her has been educational, respectful, and all-in-all, just fun, and I'd be more than happy to explore future collaborations with her in the future.
